Gene Kennedy is recognized nationally for his photography of the contemporary American landscape. He is best known for his black-and-white documentary images about suburban land development in California. His pictures are contained in the collections of the California State Library, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others. In 1984, Kennedy was awarded an Emerging Artist’s Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.
