John Mabey is an Independent producer, multimedia artist, and researcher.
He received his MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his BFA from the University of Santa Clara. John attended SAIC on a Reyerson Fellowship for Graduate studies in experimental media with concentration in film, video, and generative systems.
Upon completion of his graduate degree, he was awarded an artist-in-residence grant from the Chicago Council on Fine Arts to develop and produce original programming for Public Television. His independently produced projects, and his collaborations with other media artists, have been exhibited internationally. they are included in the permanent collections of; the Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum of Contemporary American, the Art Institute of Chicago.
John’s commercial work in marketing promotion and advertising for Broadcast and Cable networks has included national initiatives for; CBS News, ABC Sports, NBC Sports, CNBC, PBS, Discovery Communications, and, The News Corporation. He has received principle production credits on projects that have been awarded special recognition by The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, The Broadcast Design Association, and the International Television Association.
John has presented on the topics of design, media communications and technology at; the Carpenter Center at Harvard, The Cooper Union Center School of Art, The Art Directors Club, and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. For over two decades, he has been a community activist and supported nonprofit regional media arts foundations and cooperatives in Atlanta, Boston, Los Angles, Chicago and New York City.
