Stephen Houseknecht is a photographic artist living in Buffalo, NY. The ongoing series, It Can’t Happen Here was started in 2003 as an offshoot of the Bomber Diptych Series. Sinclair Lewis’ 1935 satiric novel “It Can’t Happen Here” about the rise of a fascist regime in the United States inspired the title of the series and over a period of time the series has turned into a political commentary of what Houseknecht see as now happening in the United States. A Rochester NY re-enactors group hosts an invitation only tactical event that is not open to the public every September. Approximately six to seven hundred Allied and Axis re-enactors take to the field on twelve hundred acres of rolling farmland for a two day battle. stephenhouseknecht.com
