Visual Studies Workshop sponsors artists' residencies in photography, artists' books, digital video and multimedia, 16mm film and analog video. Residencies are project-based and are for a period of one month. VSW will provide access to facilities, and housing on the premises. An honorarium of $2000 is provided, (pending receipt of funding for 2009). Applications are being accepted May 1 through August 30, 2008 for artists living in New York State. The next round of applications for artists living outside New York State will be accepted in the Fall of 2008 for residencies in 2009.To apply: Fill in and mail 2 copies of the application form. You will need to include a resume, project description, work samples and a SASE for return of materials. Applications should be postmarked by August 30, 2008 (but no earlier than May 1, 2008 please)

Artists' Book Residencies:
Access and technical assistance is available for pre-press design and production of editioned artists' books. Projects may also involve digital editions (up to 200) or one-of-a-kind books. Facilities and equipment include an extensive Macintosh computer lab with film and flatbed scanners, inkjet and laser printers. There are also a simple hand-bindery capability. Materials and production costs are the responsibility of the artist.Photography Residencies
Facilities and equipment include a digital lab with large format inkjet printers, black and white darkrooms (ncluding an 8"x10" enlarger), a historic process and non-silver darkroom and a shooting studio.Digital Video, Audio and Multimedia Residencies:
A media lab with digital video capture and transfer capability. Macintosh G-4s and G-5s with Final Cut Pro, Aftereffects and Macromedia Director are available for editing and assembling video, multimedia or web-based projects. Systems include real-time digital editing. A MIDI-based sound lab with Pro Tools and a PC based animation system are also available. To be considered for residency, artists must be fluent with these digital technologies.Film and Video Residencies
are available for 16mm film and analog video production and post-production. Excellent 16mm cameras and a film editing suite is available.Installations

Artists' Programs at Visual Studies Workshop are supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, a Federal Agency, the Nimoy Foundation, the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency, and the Andrea Frank Foundation.
All program areas accept qualified interns on a 3 to 6 month basis. Interns participate in ongoing production or special projects. In addition to receiving professional field related experience, interns have access to VSW facilities. Internships are available in Afterimage, Research Center, Media Center and Administration.
