Doug Aitken awarded the 2012 Nam June Paik Art Center Prize

The Nam June Paik Art Center (South Korea) has awarded its 2012 prize to Los Angeles artist Doug Aitken for his video work. Aitken will have a solo exhibition at the Paik Center in 2013 and will receive a $50,000 grant. The jury commented on Aitken’s work: “[I]ts attitude and achievements can be characterized above all by an experimentalism that stretches the possibilities of media.” The prize was first awarded in 2009, and has been given to artists Seung-Taek Lee, Eun-Me Ahn and Ceal Floyer.

See Afterimage Vol. 40, No. 1 (July/August 2012) for a review of Doug Aitken’s 2012 exhibition “SONG1” at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C. Purchase a copy here.
